I spent the last five nights camping out in the canyonlands of Arizona, Utah and Colorado. Slept out in the open four of the nights. It was just the dogs and me for most of the trip while the fam hung out with friends and wrecked their lungs in northern CO. Did a lot of exploring and finally got to test out the Mickey Thompsons.
I also got to demonstrate for some fellow campers the importance of good tires and low range when traveling in canyon country as I taught them how to dig out their “AWD” CUV from deep, fine sands . Working on writing something up for O&E , but I have a lot of schoolwork to catch up on. The truck only let me down once when the hood struts failed while airing the tires up. My shovel served as an adequate stand in. It’s going to be really hard going back to work on Monday. If we go remote again I’m living out here.

This was a bit further south. East of Fry Canyon, north of Natural Bridges NP. Too many people near Moab. I drove pretty much every trail in the desert around 95 in between all the NPs out there. Drove up to Bears Ears as well, but it was going to be a bit too nippy for my gear. I also camped near the fringes of Glenn Canyon where Lake Powell has dried out a bit.

The little grey pit spent her nights chasing desert rats around.

Yep, that’s the area. I pretty much just rode around all those trails for the week. Beautiful area with very relaxing trails. Nothing too gnarly, but a good workout for the truck. I was worried the area would be filled with people, but I only saw one or two trucks out there all week.
I might outfit the Yamaha to be more of an enduro (mostly a larger tank and some panniers ) and take it out there for another solo week over winter.

This looks like an amazing time! Thanks for sharing pics.
I’m so excited about moving to Ca and then buying a vehicle to do this proper in.

Sounds like a grand trip, with some great views and good boys (or girls).
